I am curious to know how the check for the catalog works. I want to notify by email when new catalogs are available, it seems there is no functionnality in WPP to notify. So I want to check with a script the .cab files saved locally.
  1. Does the check work when WPP is running (if we always keep it open) ? If yes, is it a define time when the check will run ?
  2. Does the check work when we run WPP ?
  3. Which element is checked ? (Is it the CreationDate attribut in the XML or the PackageID ,... ?)
  4. When an update is detected, does WPP automatically download the new file and save it into the "Subscribed Catalogs" folder ?
  5. Is it possible to run WPP like a service ?

Afair WPP checks every time it is started within 24 hours. So if you leave wpp running it's not checking in Intervalls. No it'S not possible to run WPP as a Service. If you want to be notified you can try this and define the catalogs sites as page.

That's right.

WPP, hasn't be design to run as a service. Additionnaly, catalog are not updated so frequently. And there is less and less Publisher to use catalog.
