WPP does not provide .exe Updates but .msi

Topics: Configuration Issue

Well, I am facing the issue, that WPP is not able to provide updates created from an .exe file.
Updates that were created from a .msi file work without causing any issues.

The main problem in here is that the updates do not even get shown at the clients that should receive the updates.
WSUS just marks the .exe updates as "installed" in WSUS Console.
Did someone face the same issue yet?

It would be quite nice to get some help with this due to the fact that some patches do not get provided as .msi file...

Thanks in Advance!

Well, we are going to install only .msi files using WPP.
All .exe files get installed using GPO and Scripts ....

You are welcome if there are any updates on installing .exe updates using WPP.

I have performed the following tests with the tool: https://www.apreltech.com/Free/How_to_wrap_exe_into_msi.
With the tool, i have converted the exe in a msi.

That's no clean solution, but it works.

I do not understand whether this is a problem of the WSUS installation or the database ....
Is there a log?

There are no problem to use .exe files in WPP to create updates. A lot of administrators use it.
I have working updates for Firefox. Thunderbird, ImageJ, Notepad and much more, all exe based.

Be sure that you are use all nessasary (silent) switches for your .exe files.

If you are new on WPP, I think the problem ist that youre rules are not correct. You NEED manual rules if you use .exe files! Read the tutorials for creating updates from .exe files.....

I will recommend you to read the HowTos and examples you can find in www., and read the documentation from WPP.

"Just at a time that has stopped working ..."
Im sorry ?

Create a Update for Firefox ESR.
-ms is the Parameter for silent installation
looking on a client in registry for the path with Install information and create the first rule :
<bar:RegSz Key="HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE" Subkey="SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Mozilla\Mozilla Firefox ESR" Value="CurrentVersion" Comparison="Contains" Data="45.1.0"/>

create the second rule to check for nessasary Operation System:
<bar:WindowsVersion Comparison="GreaterThanOrEqualTo" MajorVersion="5" MinorVersion="1" ServicePackMajor="3"/>

Dont forget different path for 32/ 64bit in rule one ( if you use it)

And ofcourse create a firefox group in WSUS ....

Here are are example from my installation for FREECAD , im sorry, all my dokus are in german.:
